Quick DeSmuME Wii Update

Let's get this out of the way first: DeSmuME Wii is temporarily on hold.

This is because of a bug I've encountered in devkitPROr17 that conflicts with Tantric's SDL preventing projects that use both (like DeSmuME Wii) from being able to compile. The obvious solution would be to download devkitPPC, libogc, and libfat from the subversion repository. Unfortunately, the current revision (at time of writing) is broken and won't compile (according to the fine folks on #wiidev).

In other words, DeSmuME Wii will be back in development when one of the following happen:
  • devkitPROr18 is released
  • The subversion repository is fixed
  • Someone e-mails me a compilation of devkitPPC, libogc, and libfat, from the subversion repository that is from no earlier than August 4th, 2009.
Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks in advance for your patience. Profetylen and I are looking forward to getting back to development as soon as possible (probably more than the readers are ;-) )

  2. Jeesh, don't cry :-P

Unless someone sends me an e-mail with the attached files I need we'll probably be back to work in about a month when devkitPRO updates to r18.

  3. I just want to say, that I have read this blog of the DeSmuME progress, and I find it incredibly motivating. I am going to attempt to follow along as a way to get started as a porter for the Wii. Keep up the wonderfully educational posts. You don't realize how valuable this type of information for beginners is, in terms of both inspiration and technical details. Thankyou so very much.

  4. Thanks :-)

Unfortunately, now that we have to write original code to make the "emulator engine" (or "core" as I've been calling it) work we have to write original code. It's a little bit hard to post about that beyond saying "read the source comments" but I'll try my best to document it as thoroughly as I can in my blog.

And, another status update: We have the emulator font-end code written. We're just waiting to be able to compile (C'mon devkitPROr18!!!)

  7. Looks like devkitPPC r18 was just released, although there isn't any news posting about it yet. The Windows installer installs it though.
